Join into round with
purl stitches.
After that first round of purl, knit 6-7-7-8-9 rounds.
Turn the mitten inside out so that the wrong side of the cuff is facing out.
knit 14-16-18-22-24 rounds.
On the next row mark for thumb: knit stitches with a bit of scrap yarn in a contrasting colour over the 1st needles 4-5-5-6-7 first stitches and then slide those stitches back on the needle and knit them again with the main colour.
Continue knitting until work measures 13-15-17-20-22 cm (measured from the turnaround). It is now time to start to decrease the stiches.
Decrease round: On 1st and 3rd needle -
(sl1,k1,psso) knit remaining stiches.

On 2nd and 4th needle knit until 3 stitches remain, knit 2 stitches tog, knit 1.
Continue to decrease in manner above every other round for 3-3-4-4-5 times.
Knit remaining stitches together two and two , cut yarn pull through loops and pull tigh, then fasten at the back of work.
Thumbs: Remove the small string of contrasting coloured yarn that you previously inserted.
Divide stitches on 3 needles and knit rounds for 3-3 ½ -4-4 ½ -6 cm, or the length needed.Decrease by Knitting stitches together two and two. Pull yarn through remaining loops and fasten on the inside of the thumb.
Knit one like mitt - but reversed so that the thumb row selection instead end up on 4th needles 4-5-5-6-7 last stitches.
Wash with soap and after rinsing squeeze and roll up in a towel to soak up excess moisture. Lay the mittens flat on a towel to air dry. At this point, you can also stretch and manipulate the project to make sure that lines are straight and the mittens look the way you want them to look.
For a final finishing, use brush to brush up the mitten both inside and out avoiding the cuff. The cuff can then be embroidered with colorful yarns. Yellow, blue and green, in the spirit of my homeland these colours represent the sun, the water and the grass!
Crochet in the bottom of the mitten 5cm with chain stitches with a crochet hook 6 and double yarn.
Make tassels in the pattern color and attach them at the end of the chain stitches.
